County Tax Bills in the Mail

Tax relief available for elderly and disabled residents; email reminder of tax deadline sign up

Albemarle County tax bills for personal property and real estate are in the mail to county residents. Tax payments are due Thursday, December 5, 2013. If you have any questions or have not received your Personal Property or Real Property tax bill(s), or if you have a vehicle, trailer, boat or airplane located in Albemarle County that is not listed on your bill please contact the Finance Department at (434) 296-5851 or before the deadline.

To avoid incurring a 10% late payment penalty, payments must be either (1) postmarked by December 5, (2) or delivered in person to the Finance Office before close of business on December 5th. Otherwise, late payment penalty is effective the following day (December 6th) and interest at a rate of 10% per annum also begins to accrue the following month. As established by the Board of Supervisors during the most recent budget process, the tax rate for 2013 is $0.766 per hundred of assessed value for real estate, and $4.28 per hundred for personal property.

The Finance department is pleased to announce a new service to help citizens remember tax due dates. To sign up for the service visit the County's A-Mail web page. Type your email address and click on "Finance News and Deadlines". A confirmation will be sent once the registration is complete.
