Federal Government Shutdown Closes Shenandoah National Park

Due to the government shutdown, Shenandoah National Park is closed. All recreation activities are suspended. Entrances, trailheads, backcountry, visitor facilities, lodges and campgrounds are closed.
If you have questions about reservations at the park’s lodges/cabins, please contact DNC Parks & Resorts at 877- 847-1919. For questions about campground reservations, contact 877-444-6777. During the shutdown, Shenandoah National Park’s website and social media sites will be inactive. Visitors to the park’s website will be redirected to The Shenandoah National Park Trust’s website will not shut down, nor will our Facebook or Twitter accounts. We will post updates on social media as they become available.

Of Shenandoah National Park’s 240 employees, nearly 200 have been furloughed.

There is also deep concern for the gateway communities whose economies benefit from their proximity to Shenandoah National Park—especially at this time of year, when visitors from across the state and country flock to the park to view the changing foliage. Nearly 25% of the visitors to Shenandoah National Park come in the month of October alone, and many of those visitors spend time and money in neighboring communities. The park estimates that visitors to Shenandoah in October generate $10 million+ in gateway communities during that same period.
