Dedication Ceremony for New Ivy Fire Rescue Station Held August 29

Albemarle County was pleased to unveil the new Ivy Fire Rescue Station at an official ribbon-cutting ceremony this afternoon at the Ivy Fire Rescue Station located at 640 Kirtley Lane, Charlottesville, VA 22903-9334.  This new station has been in operation since July 1, 2013 and is the result of a strong partnership between Albemarle County, the University of Virginia, the University of Virginia Health System and Korean Charlottesville Community Presbyterian Church that will improve service levels and build community in Ivy and the surrounding areas.

Service is provided from a 24/7 staffed fire engine and daytime staffed ambulance with personnel trained to handle all hazards including fires, auto accidents, hazardous conditions, and advanced emergency medical procedures (Advanced Life Support or ALS).  The personnel is made up of a blended crew of career and volunteer service providers not unlike other fire and EMS stations throughout the County.

The Ivy Station is situated within a portion of an existing warehouse building, owned by the University of Virginia. The station is approximately 5800 GSF which includes two full size apparatus bays. The station has a kitchen/day-room, operations office, fitness room and sleeping quarters.  In addition support space is provided for a mechanical room, disinfectant room, gear storage and a backup generator.

The public is invited to an Ivy Fire Rescue Station Open House on Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Staff will offer tours the station and apparatus and conduct demonstrations. This will be and exciting and educational opportunity for all ages. Pets on leash welcome, outdoor areas only.

  • Partnership between the County of Albemarle, University of Virginia, University of Virginia Health System and Korean Charlottesville Community Presbyterian Church equates to a lower overall cost and stronger sense of community.
  • Ivy Fire Rescue addresses the service needs of Ivy, the most densely populated rural area of the County.
  • Ivy Fire Rescue combines career staff and volunteers with identical standards of readiness to serve the Ivy response area, as well as assisting neighboring county and city stations as needed.
  • Ivy Fire Rescue will provide a closer Advanced Life Support (ALS) engine and ambulance to the response area.
