Albemarle County Police Department Receive National Recognition

The Albemarle County Police Department is honored to receive the Above and Beyond award, a national recognition by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).  The ESGR, an office of the Department of Defense, promotes cooperation and understanding between Reserve Service members and their civilian employers.  Their goal is to ensure employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve.

The Albemarle County Police Department currently has seven officers who also work as reserve members of the U.S. military.  One ACPD officer submitted Colonel Steve Sellers to receive the Service Member Patriot Award.  Through the nomination of Officer Jason Beach, Colonel Sellers was selected and received the Patriot Award.  The Service Member Patriot Award recognized supervisors and the efforts they make to support service members.  In his nomination, Officer Beach wrote of Colonel Sellers, “He exceeds the standard for leadership.  He leads by example and takes care of his officers to no end.”

Since receiving that award, the ESGR awards committee selected the Albemarle County Police Department for a higher honor, the Above and Beyond award.  This award is for the entire Department and recognizes the dedication of supervisors, staff and co-workers in supporting employees who also serve in the Guard and Reserve.

On behalf of the Albemarle County Police Department, Colonel Sellers will receive the award on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Board of Supervisors meeting.  Mr. Grant Risinger will present Colonel Sellers with the award.
