Albemarle Police Release Enforcement Results from Foxfield Races

The Albemarle County Police Department reports a total of 33 arrests made during the Foxfield Races on April 27, 2013. In addition to these arrests, a total of 66 charges were placed.  The arrests are the combined enforcement efforts of the Albemarle County Police Department, Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia ABC Bureau of Law Enforcement.  The majority of the arrests were for drunk in public or underage possession of alcohol.  There were also three narcotic arrests, including one felony possession of cocaine. 

Officers assigned to traffic duties on Garth Road and Free Union Road issued 61 traffic summonses for various motor vehicle infractions, most of which were related to equipment, seat belt violations and/or exceeding passenger loads.  One person was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.

In April 2012, 61 people were arrested at Foxfield and 37 summonses were issued for traffic offenses.

The Albemarle County Police Department was assisted by special agents with the Virginia ABC Bureau of Law Enforcement, deputies with the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office, UVA Police and troopers with the Virginia State Police.  In additional to the law enforcement support, there were resources available from the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, Emergency Communications Center, Fire & Rescue, CERT volunteers, civilian staff and IT support.
