Albemarle County Parks & Rec Co-Sponsor Kid's Fishing Day at Mint Springs Park on April 27
4/15/2013

The ninth annual Kid’s Fishing Day will be held at Mint Springs Park in Crozet, Virginia on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The event is sponsored by the Thomas Jefferson Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Kingfishers, and the Albemarle County Department of Parks and Recreation.  This event celebrates the memory of David Thompson, a former member of Trout Unlimited.

Fish will be stocked for the event in the two lakes at Mint Springs.  Mint Springs Park is located just west of downtown Crozet, on Route 684.  All kids age 12 and under are invited to fish for free – no license is required.  Only one fishing rod per youngster is permitted.

Trout Unlimited and Kingfisher volunteers will operate a concession stand.  Some bait and tackle will be offered for sale.  The Western Albemarle Rescue Squad will be on hand in the event something other than a fish happens to get hooked.

The annual event has drawn over 200 youngsters each of the past eight years.  The Thomas Jefferson Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Kingfishers, and Albemarle County Parks and Recreation sponsor the event to promote cold-water fishery conservation and fishing as a wholesome family activity.
