Education Innovation the Focus of Upcoming Startup Weekend

To take advantage of our area’s prolific and active entrepreneurial and education talent, Albemarle County and  Albemarle County Schools are joining with Google for Entrepreneurs™, Microsoft Bizspark™, the Curry School of Education, and the Kauffman Foundation to sponsor the upcoming Startup Weekend EDU (SWEDU) to be held April 5-7 at the Albemarle County Building on 5th Street Extended in Albemarle County. The spotlight is on innovation in education, so anyone with an interesting idea for an educational product or service is strongly encouraged to jump into the action - this 3-day program will give you an opportunity to pitch your idea and partner with topic experts (marketing, finance, or technology) to further develop your idea into a market-tested proposal. Final proposals will be pitched to area and state business leaders. This can be anyone who has an idea to teach something to others or for ideas to improve education in any way,  in any country or language, and for any group of people.
Startup Weekend™ is a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities. In the EDU program, educators come with ideas and team up with technologists (coders, web designers, user interface gurus) to launch a venture in 54-hours with the help of mentors in the fields of education.  The Startup Weekend™ organization is a non-profit that created the idea for these startup weekends, which has gone viral around the world. The program’s motto is “No Talk, All Action. Launch a Startup in 54 Hours.” This is the third Startup Weekend in the area, but the first to be done in the EDU format.
