County Invites Residents to Join Albemarle Against Hunger Food Drive

Albemarle County employees are holding a food drive to benefit the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank – Albemarle Against Hunger – running now through Friday, December 14, and citizens are invited to join in the effort. The Food Bank is in dire need this holiday season, and employees believe their donations can make a big difference for local families. In past years, the Albemarle Against Hunger food drive sponsored by Albemarle County employees collected 800 pounds of food, which the Food Bank equates to 625 meals, and over $1,400.

Collection points are set up in several locations:

  • County Office Building 5th Street – Lobby/rotunda area
  • County Office Building on McIntire Road – Second floor lobby, across from the elevators
  • Court Square – Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office

These areas are accessible for public donations between the regular business hours of 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please, no glass containers.

According to Food Bank officials, the most needed items include canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned stews and soups, grains, boxed pasta and non-refrigerated beverages.
