Albemarle County Police Department to Host Animal Summit on November 12

The Albemarle County Police Department will host an Animal Summit to bring community members together to have a discussion on issues affecting our animal population. The summit will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Lane Auditorium, Albemarle County Office Building, 401 McIntire Road. Community members with animal concerns are strongly encouraged to attend.

The summit will consist of a panel discussion with a question and answer period.  The panel includes professionals from our community who are responsible for the health and safety of our animal population.  The question and answer period will help us identify specific animal concerns and answer your questions directly.
We have identified several key topics to discuss including animal welfare, emergency animal shelters, hunting/wildlife and legislative procedures.  We hope the event enhances the health and safety of the community and provides a greater understanding of animal control issues.

The six person panel includes:

  • Kimberley Maddox – Albemarle County Animal Control Officer
  • Steve Ferguson – Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries
  • Jennifer Hall – SPCA
  • Jennifer Tevendale – Albemarle County Attorney
  • Cori Lews – Veterinarian
  • Carmen Bingham – Chief of Staff for the House Democratic Leader Delegate David Toscano

Community members will have an opportunity to submit questions to be answered by the panel representatives. The question/answer session will play a pivotal role in that it allows staff to identify animal concerns and provides the opportunity to educate our community on the procedures necessary to resolve such issues.
