Albemarle County Police Participate in "Tip-A-Cop" Fundraiser to Benefit the Special Olympics

Officers with the Albemarle County Police Department will trade in handcuffs and weapons to help wait tables this Saturday at the Red Robin and they hope you’ll help by leaving them a big tip!  All proceeds from the “Tip-A-Cop” fundraiser will go directly to the Special Olympics Virginia.

“Tip-A-Cop” is an event for The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.  Local law enforcement officers will serve as “celebrity waiters” during lunch and dinner shifts at Red Robin locations across Virginia.

Customers can place a special tip for Special Olympics in an envelope on their table or they can add it to their bill if paying by credit card.  (This tip is in addition to the normal gratuity they leave their server.)

If you don’t have time to stop and eat, you can still help out by covering the cruiser.   “Cover the Cruiser” is another fundraising effort that will be taking place on Saturday outside of the Red Robin.  Your donations will be taped to the police cruiser and we are hoping to get enough donations to cover the car.

“Tip-A-Cop” and “Cover the Cruiser” are two of the many events the Albemarle County Police Department participates in to support Special Olympics Virginia.  Our state has a goal of raising $1,000,000 to support the cause.  Please help us reach that goal and join us at the Red Robin on Saturday!  You can also contact Sgt. Steve Wilkins ( to discuss other ways to support the Special Olympics Virginia.

Our officers will be serving at the Red Robin at Fashion Square Mall on Saturday, October 6, 2012.  The fundraiser will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m and then again from 5 p.m until 9 p.m.
