Absentee Voting in Albemarle County for November 6 General Election is Underway

Voters who are registered to vote in Albemarle County, and who are eligible to vote absentee, may do so either by mail or in person, except for certain first-time voters who registered by mail, and those who must vote absentee in person.  To check absentee eligibility, go to: or phone the voter registration office at 434-972-4173.

Applications to receive an absentee ballot by mail must be presented to the Albemarle County Department of Voter Registration and Elections/Electoral Board, via mail (Box 404, 536 Pantops Center, Charlottesville, VA 22911), or via fax (434) 972-4178, or in person, at 1600 5th Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.  The deadline for receipt of a by-mail absentee ballot application for the November 6 general election is Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 5 p.m.  For absentee voters who vote by mail, the completed voted absentee ballot must be received by this office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, November 6, 2012, in order to be counted.

As an alternative to absentee voting by mail, qualified Albemarle County voters may vote an absentee ballot in-person at the Department of Voter Registration and Elections, 5th Street County Office Building, 1600 5th Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902, beginning Friday, September 21, 2012.  Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. through 5 p.m.  For in-person absentee voting, in addition to regular weekday office hours, the office at 1600 5th Street will be open on Saturday, October 27, 2012 and Saturday, November 3, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.   Saturday, November 3, 2011 at 5 p.m. is the deadline for in-person absentee voting for the November 6 general election, except for certain limited emergency situations.

Please note that, due to a recent change in Virginia law, voters who do not present acceptable identification at the polls, and in-person absentee voters, will be required to vote a provisional ballot.
