Martha Jefferson Named America's Most Beautiful Hospital
Martha Jefferson Hospital was named America’s most beautiful hospital for 2012 in a nationwide survey.
Conducted by Soliant Health, a specialty health care staffing provider, voting was opened to the public and there were more than 170,000 votes cast, according to an announcement from the company released Monday.
Completed last year, features that helped the Martha Jefferson building earn the honor are its pitched roof, gardens, frosted glass windows and handcrafted bathroom tiles. The $275 million, 176-bed, six-level hospital is split into the top of Pantops Mountain.
“From the very beginning of the design process, our aim has been to provide our patients, visitors and staff with a comfortable, pleasant environment,” Jim Haden, president of Martha Jefferson Hospital, said in a statement. “We believe that such an environment improves their overall experience and patient outcomes. Ultimately, we wanted the facility itself to reflect our vision to set the standard for clinical quality and personalized health care services.”
Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville, Tenn., Miami Children’s Hospital and Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare in Illinois rounded out the top five in the contest.
