Local Law Enforcement Agencies Participate in National Take Back Initiative
10/26/2011

On October 29, 2011 local law enforcement agencies will work collaboratively with the Drug Enforcement Administration to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from our medicine cabinets.

The Albemarle County Police Department, the Charlottesville Police Department, the University of Virginia Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff's Office will all have a collection site for controlled, non-controlled and over the counter substances.  The Albemarle County Police collection site will be located at 1600 5th Street.  The Charlottesville Police collection site will be located at 606 East Market Street.  The University of Virginia Police collection site will be located at 2304 Ivy Road and the Greene County Sheriff's Office collection site will be located at Wal-Mart 135 Stone Ridge Drive, Ruckersville.  All of the collection sites will be operational from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

This is an anonymous program.  There will be no questions asked and no identification required to get rid of expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs.  Intra-venous solutions and syringes will not be accepted due to the potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.  Illicit substances like marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative.

If anyone has any questions regarding this initiative please contact the Albemarle County Police Department at 434-296-5807, the Charlottesville Police Department at 434-970-3280, the University of Virginia Police Department at 434-924-7166 or the Greene County Sheriff's Office at 434-985-2222.
