Itís Fire Prevention Week. Protect your Family from Fire

Albemarle County Fire Rescue along with Albemarle County Fire Corps are following the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) program during October 8-15, 2011, to let the community know: “It’s Fire Prevention Week. Protect your Family from Fire!” As always, the focus is to prevent home fires. This year, the campaign is also urging people to protect their homes and families with planning and life-saving technology -- like smoke alarms!

Albemarle County Fire Rescue will have kiosks set up at select local businesses during Fire Prevention Week to support “It’s Fire Prevention Week. Protect your Family from Fire!” locally. We strongly encourage Albemarle residents to participate in these events to learn more about the importance of smoke alarms and other ways to protect your home and family from fire.

Come visit us at…

  • Sears on Saturday, October 8th, from 10AM-2PM
  • Crozet Great Value on Monday, October 10th, from 10AM-2PM
  • Crossroads Store in North Garden on Wednesday, October 12th, from 10AM-2PM
  • Dollar Tree at Pantops Shopping Center on Thursday, October 13th, from 10AM-2PM
  • Sam’s Club on Friday, October 14th, from 10AM-2PM

Please stop by one of our tables during these times for more information on fire safety.  You’ll also be given an opportunity to sign up to have someone from our department install a smoke alarm free of charge!

In addition, we’re also working with Habitat for Humanity/Southwood MHP and Meals On Wheels to provide information on fire prevention and safety and to make available free smoke alarms as needed.

During the week of October 9 – 15, 2011 select Domino’s stores across the county will work with their local fire rescue departments to deliver pizza. If a fire official accompanies the Domino’s delivery person, and the home where the pizza is delivered has working smoke alarms, their next pizza is free!  If there aren’t working alarms, ACFR will replace the battery and/or the smoke alarm unit in the home free of charge. Together, we can spread the message of fire safety and save lives.

If you need a smoke alarm, need one checked, or have questions about fire prevention, please feel free to visit us at , or by calling 434-296-5833, for further information.
