County Voters Urged to Check their New Precinct and District Information

The 2011 decennial state and local redistricting process for Albemarle County voters is complete. This process has affected over 49,000 County Citizens. Voters are urged to check their new precinct and district information online or by contacting the Albemarle County Voter Registration Office at 434-972-4173. The State Board of Elections will be mailing out new voter cards to all affected voters prior to the upcoming November 8, 2011 General Election.

The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors is required by Article VII, § 5 of the Constitution of Virginia to redistrict every 10 years following the public release of decennial census data to re-balance the County’s population so that each district’s population is as equal as possible to every other district. The members of the Board of Supervisors and the School Board are elected from the six magisterial districts. The Board also reviews and redraws the boundaries of the precincts within the magisterial districts and evaluates the locations of polling places to assure compliance with State and Federal law.
