Final Deadline for Land Use Revalidation Approaching

Albemarle County is reminding citizens that the final deadline for filing 2012 land use revalidation forms without late fee is September 1, 2011.  Anyone filing a form from September 2, 2011 through the December 5, 2011 final deadline will incur a late fee of $125.00 per parcel.

Anyone who does not file a revalidation form by December 5, 2011,  will be removed from the land use program and will face the possibility of being assessed “rollback taxes”, which means they would be responsible for the past five years of deferred taxes plus interest.

The Board of Supervisors adopted the land use revalidation process to protect the integrity of the program and to ensure that participants are meeting the qualifying standards or are given the opportunity to move to another land use category that can better help them meet their land preservation goals. Through revalidation the county is seeking to help people understand the applicable requirements and to work with property owners to meet the qualifying standards wherever possible.

Anyone needing assistance in submitting a revalidation form should call (434)296-5856 or drop by the County Assessors Office in Room 243 at the County Office Building on McIntire Road during regular business hours of 8:00 a.m. -- 5:00 p.m.
