Dr. Bruce Benson, Assistant Superintendent for Operations & Systems Planning, Accepts Superintendent Position in Accomack, VA
Dr. W. Bruce Benson recently announced his resignation as Assistant Superintendent for Operations & Systems Planning with Albemarle County Public Schools. Dr. Benson has been appointed Division Superintendent for Accomack County Public Schools in Accomack, Virginia. Dr. Benson will continue his role as Assistant Superintendent with Albemarle County through June 30, 2011, and will begin his new duties on July 1, 2011.
The Assistant Superintendent for Operations & Systems Planning oversees the facilities, administrative operations, and support services that promote a safe, high-quality learning environment for all students. Dr. Benson’s current key areas of responsibility include Building Services, Child Nutrition, Fiscal Services, Human Resources, School Health Services, and Transportation Services, as well as strategic planning, quality systems, and policy review. Information regarding a replacement for Dr. Benson will be provided at a later date.
In conjunction with the 2009 reorganization of central leadership, Dr. Benson assumed the position of Assistant Superintendent for Operations & Systems Planning after serving as Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning and Executive Director for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology. Prior to his service with the central office, Dr. Benson taught high school chemistry, biology, and computer science. Dr. Benson holds a doctorate from the University of Virginia, a master’s from Old Dominion University, and a bachelor’s from Western Michigan University.
