Public Safety Personnel Discover Improvised Explosive Device

On May 9, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m. the Albemarle County Police, City of Charlottesville Police, Virginia State Police, Albemarle County Fire, City of Charlottesville Fire and C.A.R.S. personnel responded to 801 Franklin Street for a report of a suspicious circumstance.  Upon arrival emergency personnel observed what appeared to be an improvised explosive device.

The device was located in the upstairs portion of the Charlottesville Stockyard.  Members of the Virginia State Police Arson and Bomb Unit analyzed the device and determined that it did not have any explosive properties.  The device was dismantled and turned over to the Albemarle County Fire Marshal's Office.
