Preservation Week 2011 Kicks Off March 30

Preservation Piedmont, in conjunction with the Piedmont Area Preservation Alliance is announcing its third annual Preservation Week.  The public is invited to participate in a wide range of events and learning opportunities that will take place March 30th through April 9th.

Jean Carroon, author of Sustainable Preservation: Greening Existing Buildings, will kick off Preservation Week on March 30, 2011 with a lecture and book signing. The event is jointly sponsored by Preservation Piedmont, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, and the Tusculum Institute of Sweet Briar College.

From March 31 through April 3, Preservation Virginia will be holding an antiques show highlighting well-known East Coast U.S. dealers. The show will offer numerous opportunities to learn about, as well as purchase, period local furniture and decorative accessories. For more information, please visit

As part of April's First Fridays program (April 1), Preservation Piedmont will be hosting Preservation Week's opening reception at the offices of John Milner Associates, Inc. (300 W. Main St., Suite 201, across from the Sacajawea statue at Main and 5th Streets).

On Sunday, April 3, the Horse & Hound Gastropub at 625 West Main Street will be offering a 10% discount on Sunday brunch for Preservation Week attendees. (RSVP directly to Horse & Hound at 434.293.3365 and mention Preservation Week 2011.) Immediately after the brunch, please join Preservation Piedmont for a walking tour of the West Main Street corridor.
Throughout the following week, April 4-9, Preservation Piedmont will be hosting a series of brown-bag lunch and evening lectures.

Preservation Week 2011 will conclude in partnership with the University of Virginia's School of Architecture Historic Preservation Lecture and Symposium, Keeping Memory Green, occurring Friday, April 8 through Saturday, April 9.  Details are available at
