Albemarle County Citizen Fire Rescue Academy Kicks Off May 3 Register Today

Have you ever considered volunteering for your local fire department, but do not want to wear the gear and put out the fire?  Are you interested in knowing more about how Albemarle County Fire Rescue works?  If so, you can sign up now for the Albemarle County Citizen Fire Rescue Academy! 

The Citizen’s Fire Rescue Academy is designed to allow Albemarle County residents the opportunity to gain a realistic view into the operations of our Fire Rescue Department. Participants in the Academy will learn how Fire Rescue operates, tour the Monticello station, see the equipment, and talk with firefighters and paramedics about the many aspects of their service (EMS and fire response).

Chief Dan Eggleston and his senior officers will teach the course. Classes will include an overview of Fire Rescue procedures, firefighting, emergency medical services, the combination Department structure (career and volunteer), education programs, special operations, training, and many other topics.

Topics include:

  • Department operation
  • Fire Prevention
  • Firefighting equipment
  • Fire investigations
  • Emergency medical services
  • Special Operations
  • Emergency Communications Center
  • and many others

How Much Does the Course Cost?
There is no charge to participants. All materials are provided.

Tuesdays, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. May 3 – June 14, 2011
