Albemarle Names New Parks and Rec Department Head

Albemarle County has named Bob Crickenberger as its new Director of Parks and Recreation following the retirement of Pat Mullaney.  Crickenberger, who has been with the Parks and Recreation Department since 1974 and has served as Deputy Director since 1990, will assume his new position on January 1, 2011.

Crickenberger joined the County as a park foreman and served in that capacity until 1981 when he was promoted to Superintendent of Recreation.  In that position he was responsible for organizing, developing, planning, executing and the supervision of a wide range and well balanced recreational programs and athletic activities for all ages.

During his 20 years as Deputy Director of the Department, Crickenberger has managed the day to day operation of the department and assisted in the preparation of the annual operating budget and control of expenditures and related revenues.  He has been responsible for planning and executing the Capital Improvement Program and serving as project manager for a variety of projects including park facilities and recreational improvements to school grounds.

Crickenberger has been involved in numerous community organizations during his employment with the County including serving as a youth baseball and basketball coach and being a member of the Camp Albemarle and Claudius Crozet Park Boards of Directors.

“Bob has provided tremendous leadership to the department and service to the community during his tenure with the Parks and Recreation Department and I am very confident in his ability to continue the Department’s emphasis on customer service and stewardship of County resources as the new Director”,  said County Executive Bob Tucker in making the announcement.
