Dunlora Entrance Will be Shifted November 10

Traffic switch will enable reconstruction of current Dunlora access road

Traffic into and out of the Dunlora community will be shifted to a new entrance on Wednesday, Nov. 10 so that the current entrance can be reconstructed and connected to the new alignment of East Rio Road. On Nov. 9 the new entrance will be paved and connected to Dunlora Drive. During that work motorists on Dunlora Drive may experience brief delays; traffic will be controlled by flaggers.

The new Dunlora entrance is just east of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center. Traffic traveling east on Rio Road will use a new left-turn lane to turn into Dunlora. A deceleration lane is also provided for westbound traffic turning right into Dunlora. Traffic leaving Dunlora will be able to turn in both directions onto East Rio Road.

The change in the traffic pattern for the Dunlora community will not affect traffic using East Rio Road and the Meadow Creek Parkway detour. The reconstruction work at the entrance to Dunlora is expected to take approximately two weeks; that entrance to Dunlora will reopen when East Rio Road is reopened to traffic.

The $11.8 million Meadow Creek Parkway project is building a new 1.4-mile, two-lane parkway from East Rio Road south to the Charlottesville city limits at Melbourne Road. It also includes the ongoing reconstruction of a portion of East Rio Road and replacement and widening of the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks.

More information about the Meadow Creek Parkway project is available on VDOT’s web site:
