The Albemarle County Police Department Introduces its Newest K-9 Team Members

The Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) is proud to introduce their newest K-9 team members.  Since 2008, the agency has retired two patrol/narcotics canines, K-9 Officer "Merlin" and K-9 Officer "Rico".  These retirements left the agency with no partol/narcotic teams, and one explosive detection team.

Over the past year and a half, the ACPD has been committed to rebuilding the K-9 program.  During the rebuilding process, it was determined that resources wouold be invested into a dual purpose: (patrol/narcotic) K-9 and a single purpose: (tracking) K-9.  With help from the Charlottesville Albemarle Kennel Club, the Albemarle County Police Foundation, and M&M Kennels, the ACPD has been able to add two new K-9 teams to the K-9 program.

In February of this year, ACPD  announced the new team of Officer David Hooper and his dual purpose (patrol/narcotic) K-9 partner, "Bink".  Now, the ACPD is proud to introduce the new single purpose (tracking) team of Officer Lindsay Mahon and her K-9 partner, "LuLu".  "LuLu" is a 13 week old Blood Hound that was donated to this agency by M&M Kennels.  Officer Mahon and "LuLu" have begun training with the Virginia Bloodhound Search and Resucue Association and they are expected to be ready for patrol sometime next year.
