Fire Prevention Week October 3 - 9; This year's theme: Focus on Smoke Detectors

Albemarle County Fire Rescue Department is announcing the following activities in honor of Fire Prevention Week:

  • On Sunday, October 3, from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., there will be open houses at both Monticello Fire Rescue Station (25 Mill Creek Drive Charlottesville, VA 22902) and Hollymead Fire Rescue Station (3575 Innovation Drive Charlottesville, VA 22911). Members of the community are invited to stop by, view the fire rescue equipment, speak with the fire rescue providers to learn valuable fire prevention information, and request (if necessary) a free smoke alarm installation.

  • On Wednesday, October 6,  from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., there will be a special event with Domino’s Pizza. Albemarle County firefighters are teaming up with Domino’s Pizza (Seminole Trail) to promote functioning fire detectors.  A firefighter will accompany the delivery person and check the customer’s smoke detectors. If the smoke alarm works, the pizza is free. If the smoke detector does not work, the customer pays for the pizza, and the fireman fixes the smoke detector.  Firefighters are not guaranteed to accompany every delivery but will visit as many homes as they are able.

  • On Saturday, October 9, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  – Closing event at Sam’s Club Parking lot in partnership with the Seminole Trail Volunteer Fire Department featuring car seat safety checks and other activities (equipment, demonstrations).
