2017 LAND USE REVALIDATION

Land Use Revalidation applications were mailed beginning July 12, 2017.  The applications have been revised in an attempt to simplify and streamline the process based on feedback we received from property owners.  Please complete and return the appropriate form(s) with any required supporting documentation by September 1, 2017.  Fillable blank application forms are available in the document center which can be accessed by clicking the Documents Center to the left.

Land Use Assessments must be revalidated every two (2) years.  The deadline to file for revalidation for 2018 (without an application fee) is September 1, 2017.  Revalidation applications submitted between September 2, 2017 and December 5, 2017 will require a late filing fee of $125.00 per parcel.  No application can be accepted after the late filing deadline of December 5, 2017.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted.  The property owner shall be responsible for providing all required information.

If your property is not solely used for the category listed on your application, if the type of use for your property has changed or has been discontinued, or if you have any questions regarding the revalidation application process, please contact our office at 434-296-5856. Click here for information regarding Standards of Classification and the State Land Evaluation Advisory Council (SLEAC) manual.

ATTENTION:  Some property owners solely under the forestry category may receive a revalidation letter with incorrect owner and parcel information.  A follow-up letter has been mailed with the correct information.  Please disregard the initial letter and use the correct letter to revalidate land use for 2018.  Please contact our office at 434-296-5856 if you have any questions.  We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused.  The initial due date of September 1, 2017 has not changed.

GIS-Web Assessment Information:

The 2017 Real Estate Assessments values are viewable on the County's GIS-Web site

Changes to specific property information have not been updated in GIS since the 2016 reassessment. Our GIS department is currently working to update this information. If you have questions about your property description, contact our office at 434-296-5856.

There are several search options to choose from on the GIS-Web page. This includes owner name, parcel ID, and street address. Once you have selected the parcel of interest, you will see a Property Info tab on the page that opens. Click on this tab for property-specific information such as assessment history.

There is also an Advanced Search option to search property records by a broader set of criteria. Interested in seeing the selected parcel on a map? Click on the Map Property link once you have selected the parcel. There are Help and FAQ pages to assist you, should you need it.
