Youth Services
An emphasis on youth service with an active program including School Resource Officers who focus primarily upon education within the school system which provides an opportunity for young adults to learn about law enforcement as a career and prepare themselves to make ethical choices throughout their lives.
Victim / Witness Program
A Victim/Witness Coordinator provides assistance in reporting crimes, getting appropriate services, getting through the court processes and recovering from injuries, losses or damages.
Community Resources
The Community Resources Program coordinator manages crime prevention services and activities, produces the "Community Alert" newsletter and assists people with finding solutions to their problems and concerns. In addition to an active and growing Neighborhood Watch program that combines over 9000 county residents in a residential crime prevention network, we coordinate the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program. This is a state of the art crime prevention program designed to reduce crime, drug activity and gangs in apartment properties.
Police Foundation
A non-profit Police Foundation, which brings business and community leaders together to support the department's crime prevention and community policing initiatives.
Citizens Police Academy
The purpose of the Albemarle County Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is to provide information to citizens about the Police Department, police activity, and law enforcement in general. Understanding through education can help dispel suspicion and misconceptions and increase police/community rapport. In addition, the department becomes more aware of the feelings and concerns of the community.
Volunteers In Police Service Program
Volunteers provide valuable and necessary additional services to the Albemarle County Police Department. The Volunteer Program is designed to allow volunteers to support the efforts of the department and its officers.
