Albemarle County is the fifth largest county in Virginia by geographical area  It encompasses 726 square miles with an estimated population of 92,035 in 2006.

Local points of interest include Monticello, Ash Lawn-Highland, Michie Tavern, and the University of Virginia.

A comparative analysis of the number of new building permits and the new dwelling units yielded from these permits.  Statistics are analyzed by school district, magisterial district, and comprehensive plan areas.

The Residential Development Index (RDI) is a comprehensive listing of all major active (current) and proposed residential developments in the County of Albemarle.  The Current section charts the current progress of each development against the anticipated amount of (approved) dwelling units at the project's completion.  The Proposed section is a subjective review of major developments currently in the Review Process with the County.  Developments from both sections are included in a County map which depicts their general location.
