Albemarle County has 12 parks, which offer over 4,100 acres for passive and active leisure activities. Activities at the parks include swimming, picnicking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and boating. The parks are open all year (365 days) for your enjoyment, and we hope you will visit them often.
Dogs on leash are allowed at all County parks listed below, with the exception of Ivy Creek Natural Area and Ragged Mountain Natural Area(Ragged Mountain is managed by Charlottesville Parks & Recreation).
In addition Albemarle County has two off-leash dog parks.
Darden Towe Dog Park , 1-acre fenced in area for dogs to run off-leash.
Chris Greene Lake Park, 1-acre fenced in area for dogs to run off-leash with a roped water access for dogs to swim.
While all County parks are generally open from 7:00 a.m. to dark, individual parks may have special hours to accommodate fisherman. Hours are posted at each park.
All parks are open free of charge, with the following exception. There is a park user fee charged between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend at Chris Greene, Mint Springs, and Walnut Creek Parks - Click here for more information.
Albemarle County is also home to over 14,600 acres of the Shenandoah National Park, with its many scenic and recreational options for visitors to enjoy.
