PRN Licensed Practical Nurse
ALBEMARLE-CHARLOTTESVILLE REGIONAL JAIL (ACRJ) 

The PRN Licensed Practical Nurse performs direct nursing care of inmates of the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.  This position will have these tasks, but not limited to, the following areas of responsibilities:

Obtains medical histories and health assessment of inmate patients

Administers and reads TB tests on new inmates

Prepares and administers medications

Refers patients to appropriate health care providers

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires gathering, organizing, analyzing, examining, or evaluating data or information and creating an individualized course of study based on such data or information. In addition to the requirement of possessing proficient computer usage skills; this position necessitates the handling or use of machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as, but not limited to, FAX machines, copiers, telephones, or similar equipment, to include minor servicing of office machines; Requires performing semi-skilled work involving set procedures and rules but with frequent problems;; Requires reading technical instructions, procedures, manuals, and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format and grammar, speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.  Requires doing clerical, manual, or technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Valid VA state driver’s license. Hold, or be eligible for, CPR/AED Certifications. Maintain a Commonwealth of Virginia licensure in Licensed Practical Nursing,

If you have recently completed your Associate’s degree and would like to work with us, please apply!  You can work with us for no longer than 90 days between graduation and your licensing examination.  You must have a valid license application on file with us.  You will be granted a PRN position upon successful licensure and completion of orientation.   

EDUCATION:  Must have an Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university in nursing.  Requires one year nursing experience in a correctional facility.

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS: Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations. The job risks exposure to no known environmental hazards. The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, color perception.  Responsible for guiding others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a moderate to highly fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine. 

SALARY: This is an hourly position, part time with no benefits
