MISSION: To provide exceptional service to support Albemarle County in its effort to advance good government initiatives. Through leadership, innovation, focus, and teamwork, General Services is dedicated to continuously improving our efforts to the taxpayers, the Board of Supervisors’ Strategic Plan, our internal customers, the environment, and our employees with a quality-first organization.
GOAL 1: Maintain our commitment to the County’s Environmental Management Policy, which includes environmental compliance, pollution prevention, and continual environmental improvement.
Objective 1.1: Continue development and implementation of a County-wide Environmental Management System (EMS).
Objective 1.2: Continue efforts to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by promoting our energy conservation program (internal) and a County-wide climate protection program.
Objective 1.3: Continue to research and apply best management practices, current technologies and theories in environmental stewardship.
GOAL 2: Continue to develop and implement programs to protect water resources and maintain the County’s standing as a leader among local governments in water resources protection.
Objective 2.1: Continue to protect and improve the health of the County’s water resources through the planning, design, and construction of capital projects, the proper maintenance of all stormwater infrastructure and County-maintained dams, and other initiatives.
Objective 2.2: As a complement to regional stormwater management, develop and implement incentive-based programs and educational initiatives directed towards residential and commercial property owners to facilitate managing stormwater closer to its source.
Objective 2.3: Continuously advance the County’s technical and programmatic efficacy, in part by staying attuned to and ahead of potential regulatory changes.
GOAL 3: Continually and proactively improve the quality of the operation and maintenance services for the County’s facilities and grounds.
Objective 3.1: Maintain a five year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) spending plan that prioritizes areas of concern identified in the Facility Asset Management Program.
Objective 3.2: Implement a five year strategic initiative for the aesthetic care and maintenance of facilities and grounds from recognized industry standards.
Objective 3.3: To make a reasonable effort as long as budget and workload permits to provide a safe and secure working environment for the County employees and its visitors at each of the County Office Buildings through a long- term and continuously advancing security plan using as a guideline the recommendations identified in the 2007 vulnerability assessment.
