The Prevention Division and Office of the Fire Marshal offers a wide range of services to both the public and private sectors. Some of these include private smoke alarm assistance / installation; investigation of fires, hazardous material spills, releases, and explosions; inspection of public buildings, schools, preschools, nursing homes, and day care centers; and public assemblies. We issue permits for open burning, blasting, tank removal and abandonment, fireworks, and tents. Our office offers instruction in fire prevention and life safety, juvenile fire setting interventions, and emergency preparedness.
Additionally, we review plans for new construction and development to ensure adequate access for emergency vehicles and compliance with state and local fire prevention regulations. In addition to providing emergency on-call service around the clock through 911, our office is available Monday through Friday by calling 434.296.5833
