Northside Library Project
Proposed Library Schematic
The Northside Library project will provide a permanent location for the Northside Library at 705 Rio Road (former Phillips Building) and also will provide long-term County warehouse/ storage space at a significant cost savings to the County. The new facility, involving repurposing of an existing building, will provide approximately 30,000 square feet of library space, and over 20,000 square feet of warehouse space. Construction began in early 2014 with completion currently scheduled for early 2015.

Update: December 15, 2014
Sidewalks and site concrete are 85% complete.
Site lighting is complete.
Paving of parking lot starts Thursday, 12/18.
Framing at skylights is complete.
New fiber optic lines have been installed.
Card reader system is 50% complete.
Network cabling to start Thursday, 12/18.
Furniture has been procured.
IT and AV equipment scope has been finalized.
Electrical trim work has started.
Interior storefront system installation has begun.
Fireplace for quiet reading area has been delivered.

Power to building has been energized.
New gas service complete.
Library level ceiling grid installation is 50% complete.
Metal trim around exterior windows is 50% complete.
Lower level light fixture installation is complete.
Site lighting has started and is 50% complete.
Curb and gutter is 95% complete.
Sidewalks and entrance pads are 30% complete.
Paving of parking lot scheduled for second week of December (weather permitting).

Ceiling grid installation on lower level is complete.
Ceiling grid installation on library level is 25% complete.
Ceiling diffusers and light fixtures have been installed on lower level.
New roof on drive-up book return addition is complete.
New Dominion Virginia Power transformer has been installed.
Lower level prime and first coat paint is complete.
Library level prime and first coat paint is 50% complete.
Update: November 3, 2014
All new metal panels have been installed on exterior of building and painting of these panels is 75% complete.
75% of storefront windows have been installed.
Prime and first coats of paint started today on interior lower level warehouse area.
Ceiling grid installation starts on lower level warehouse area on Wednesday, 11/5.
All sprinkler pipe and heads have been installed.
Warehouse and bookmobile coiling doors have been installed.
Installation of parking lot light poles starts this week.
Furniture being ordered this week.
All parking lot (front and rear) concrete curb and gutter will be completed this week.
All electrical panels have been installed and are being wired.

All interior mechanical, electrical, plumbing and sprinkler rough-in complete.
Majority of wall framing and drywall complete.
Drywall finishing close to completion and ready for prime coat painting.
New curb and gutter at parking lots has started and should be complete by mid-November.
Air cooled chiller has been installed.
New skylights have been installed.
All interior HVAC equipment has been installed.
Elevator shaft is complete.
New front entrance is close to completion.

Project construction is now underway, with Kenbridge Construction as the General Contractor.
