On February 13, 2018, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, School Board, and Planning Commission convened jointly for the first time to foster communication among the three bodies and to develop a shared understanding regarding growth impacts in the County.

Albemarle County’s population in 2000 was 84,186. According to the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service Demographics Research Group (, the County’s population estimate as of July 1, 2017 is 107,697. That represents an increase of 27.9% over the 17-year period. As our population has grown, it has become both more diverse and more mature. Presentations included demographics and development trends, growth and land use, education, public safety, health and welfare, housing, and zoning.
