Agricultural and Forestal District Advisory Committee:  One vacancy.  The committee shall advise the local planning commission and the local governing body and assist in creating, reviewing, modifying, continuing or terminating districts within the locality.  In particular, the committee shall render expert advice as to the nature of farming and forestry and agricultural and forestal resources within the district and their relation to the entire locality. Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009.   

Albemarle County Service Authority:  Two vacancies.   The Service Authority establishes policies and procedures pertaining to water and sanitary sewer service to ACSA customers.  The Authority establishes policies and procedures regulating a staff of 50 to 60 employees, and makes long-range plans for water and sewer service in Albemarle County.  the Authority will also adopt operating and capital budgets and establishe rates and changes.   Rio and Samuel Miller District Appointments.  Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009. 

Economic Development Authority:  One vacancy.  The authority created by the Albemarle Board of County Supervisors acquires, owns, leases and disposes of properties and makes loans and issues bonds to promote industry and development by inducing manufacturing, industrial, governmental, nonprofit and commercial enterprises and institutions of higher education to locate in or remain in the County and to further the use of its agricultural products and natural resources.  Rio District.  Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009.

Equalization Board:  Two vacancies.   The Board of Equalization shall hear all complaints and objections to real estate assessments from the taxpayer or his agent. The Board shall hear and give consideration to such complaints and equalize such assessments and, moreover, the Board is charged with the especial duty of increasing as well as decreasing assessments. The Board's main charge is the equalizing of real estate assessments.  Rio and Samuel Miller District Appointments.  Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009.   

Housing Committee:  Three vacancies.    The Housing Committee provides advice and guidance to the Board of Supervisors on housing issues in furtherance of the County's goal to promote a variety of safe, sanitary and affordable housing types for Albemarle County residents of all income groups. The Chief of Housing provides staff support.   Individuals with a background in development, construction, or finance are encouraged to apply. Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009.    

Natural Heritage Committee:  Two vacancies.  The Natural Heritage Committee is an advisory committee that maintains the County’s Biodiversity Assessment; advises the Board of Supervisors, the Planning Commission, and County staff on applying biodiversity information to land-use decision-making; and supports biodiversity education in the County.  Individuals with a background in conservation science, especially with skill in using geographic information systems, are encouraged to apply. 

Pantops Community Advisory Council:  One vacancy.  Members of the Pantops Advisory Council shall serve as liaisons by contributing to the public understanding of and encouraging support for Master Plan implementation; keeping the community informed of the needs, purposes, and progress of Master Plan implementation; encouraging interest and participation in community-based activities and public meetings related to the Master Plan; and enhancing collaboration among all community stakeholders.  Members shall gather input from constituencies represented and bring these issues to the attention of staff and the Council, and distribute information from the Council back to constituents.  The Council will support implementation activities as identified in the Implementation Plan. They will set priorities for their work based on the Master Plan Implementation Matrix and current community needs.  Finally, members will identify the need for and establish community work teams to address specific master plan issues.  Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009.  

Planning Commission:  Three vacancies.  Members of the Planning Commission shall promote the orderly development of Albemarle County and its environment.  The Commission serves primarily in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Supervisors in accomplishing the objectives of § 15.2-2210 of the Code of Virginia.  This Commission also serves to improve public health, safety, convenience and welfare of County citizens and to plan for the future development of the County to the end that transportation systems be carefully planned; that new community centers be developed with adequate highway, utility, health, educational, and recreational facilities; that the needs of agriculture, industry and business be recognized in future growth; that residential areas be provided with healthy surroundings for family life; that agricultural and forestal land be preserved; and that the growth of the community be consonant with the efficient and economical use of public funds.  Rio and Samuel Miller District Appointments, and At-Large Representative.  Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009.  

Public Recreational Facilities Authority:  Three vacancies.   The Authority accepts, holds, protects, enforces and administers open-space land and interests therein, under the provisions of Chapter 17 of Title 10.1 of the Code of Virginia 1950, as specifically prescribed by Code Section 10.1-1701.  Easements are generated by the selection of the rural preservation development option to encourage more effective land usage and by grantors for other purposes.  The purposes shall not include power to acquire interests in land by purchase or by eminent domain without the express concurrence of the Board of County Supervisors, but shall be limited to accepting interests in land which from time to time may be voluntarily conveyed to the Authority by the owner or owners therefor.  The purpose shall not include the power to issue bonds or to incur debt.  Potential members should exhibit an ability to read and understand real estate plats and easements, have a general understanding of Albemarle County zoning and subdivision ordinances, and an interest in and dedication to the preservation and conservation of open-space land, water supply and historic resources.  Need not be a County resident to apply.  Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009.   

Rivanna Solid Waste Authority Citizens Advisory Committee:  One vacancy.  Committee members will serve as a sounding board for the RWSA Board of Directors on water and wastewater issues identified as existing or potential community concerns, or as assigned by the Board.  Members serve as a catalyst and help to educate the citizens of the County and the City on water-related issues.  The Committee reports on public knowledge, attitudes and behavior regarding water and wastewater issues, and assists the Board on strategies for gaining community support for major construction projects and innovative activities.   Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009.       

Route 250 West Task Force:  One vacancy.   The Task Force will review and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors with regard to all transportation improvements on the Route 250 West corridor 250 Bypass (to the Yancey Mill interchange). The Task Force will review, with public participation when necessary, each proposal prior to approval or inclusion in any request for funding. The Task Force will include in its consideration projects already in or proposed to be in the Six Year Secondary and Primary Road Plans, short-term projects recommended in the Route 250 West Corridor Study, and other transportation or development proposals that may be presented by residents and businesses affecting the Route 250 West Corridor.  Individuals from Scenic 250, Southern Environmental Law Center, Piedmont Environmental Council or other similar type of organization are encouraged to apply.   

Social Services Board:  Two vacancies.  The Social Services Board is an advisory board that monitors the formulation and implementation of social welfare programs in the County and advises the director on program and policy matters. Members serve as advocates for the Department of Social Services with the community, the Board of County Supervisors, and the State, seeking information regarding department services and the community, and as liaisons between the community and the Board of County Supervisors. The board also sets policy regarding the broad focus for the Department of Social Services.  Rio and Samuel Miller District Appointments.   Application deadline is Wednesday December 16, 2009.
