| Soil Removal to Resume on I-64 at Afton on Monday |

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s emergency project on Interstate 64 at Afton Mountain will resume on Monday, May 20 and continue through Thursday, May 23. Intermittent closures of I-64 will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day and continue throughout the day.

In partnership with Shenandoah National Park, the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) invites new hikers and experienced backpackers to learn new trail skills at PATC Trail Patrol’s “Beyond the Trailhead” event at Byrd Visitor Center (milepost 51 on Skyline Drive) from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

| Weather Again Postpones I-64 Work at Afton Mountain |

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s emergency project to remove unstable soil from a slope above Interstate 64 at Afton Mountain has been suspended today and Tuesday due to weather conditions. There will be no restrictions on traffic on I-64 between Charlottesville and Waynesboro today or tomorrow.

Albemarle County is one of many jurisdictions in the U.S. to participate in The National Citizen Survey™ in 2013. Within the next week, questionnaires will be sent to a random sample of 1,200 Albemarle households, asking for feedback on the quality and usefulness of county services.

| Police Caution Drivers About Traffic Congestion Due to Foxfield Saturday |

The Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) would like residents to be aware of some traffic congestion associated with the Spring running of the Foxfield Races which will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013. This year, 15,000 – 25,000 people are expected to converge in Albemarle County to attend the event. Gates will open at 9:00 a.m. and the first race is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.

| VDOT's I-64 Emergency Project Will Continue Next Week |

Intermittent traffic restrictions on Interstate 64 between Charlottesville and Waynesboro will resume next week during operations to remove unstable soil from Afton Mountain above the highway at milepost 100.3 in Albemarle County. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 29, traffic on I-64 will be restricted in both directions for 30-45 minutes.

On Saturday, April 27, 2013, the Albemarle County Police Department, in conjunction with Martha Jefferson Hospital, will take part in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative. Drop off expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the following locations: the Albemarle County Police Department on 5th Street, Martha Jefferson Hospital Outpatient Center on Pantops and the new Martha Jefferson Hospital ER on Profitt Road.
